2026 NFL Training Camps Hit Full Stride as Teams Push Toward Preseason

Players hit the field hard as 2026 NFL training camps hit full stride across the country.

The 2026 NFL training camps have kicked off around the country, and reporters are on the ground every day following the action. All 32 teams reported by late July. Fans flooded facilities for Back Together Weekend on Aug. 1-2. The first full week of preseason games begins Aug. 13, with the Hall of Fame Game between the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers set for Aug. 6 in Canton.

You can almost hear the pads pop from coast to coast. Rookies and veterans are settling into routines. Coaches are sorting depth charts. The defending Super Bowl LX champion Seattle Seahawks, who beat the New England Patriots 29-13 in February, already feel the weight of the target on their backs as they open camp at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center.

NFL Nation has the latest intel on standouts, highlights, position battles, depth chart movement, cut decisions and the quarterback rooms. Who are the breakouts to watch, especially for fantasy football? Which players on the roster bubble could make the final 53? Updated depth charts for every team are rolling out daily.

Atmosphere and Early Buzz from the Fields

Walk onto any practice field right now and the energy hits you first. In Green Bay, the Packers resume public practices Aug. 2 and plan full pads Aug. 3 at Ray Nitschke Field. Fans show up early with bikes for players to ride, just like old times. In Miami, the Dolphins open public sessions Aug. 2 at the Baptist Health Training Complex. In Westfield, Indiana, the Colts work through rain inside the Grand Park Events Center while fans still pack the outdoor viewing areas when the weather clears.

The weather has cooperated in most spots. Sunny skies and mild temps in the Upper Midwest. Humidity in the South that forces players to hydrate constantly. One veteran linebacker in Buffalo told a reporter the first few days felt like “the real work finally started.” That sense of urgency is everywhere.

Defending champions Seattle closed Back Together Weekend with a packed practice Saturday. The 12s turned out in force. Elsewhere, sold-out sessions at places like SECU Stadium for the Ravens and Bank of America Stadium for the Panthers turned training camp into temporary festivals complete with youth flag clinics and community events.

Position Battles Heating Up and Early Standouts

Quarterback rooms draw the most eyes. In Cleveland, Deshaun Watson is healthy and competing for the starting job against second-year Shedeur Sanders and others. Watson told NFL Network the group is learning together and he feels stronger than last year. In Pittsburgh, new coach Mike McCarthy has Aaron Rodgers back in the fold after the veteran nearly walked away. Rodgers said McCarthy’s arrival “put his foot in the door.”

On defense, Buffalo’s Landon Jackson has been a problem for the offensive line early. The defensive end added strength this offseason and is winning one-on-ones with quick inside moves. Tight end Dalton Kincaid looks sharp as both a receiver and blocker after crushing his conditioning test. In Indianapolis, rookie running back Seth McGowan is forcing the conversation as Jonathan Taylor’s primary backup with decisive cuts and power. Sauce Gardner broke up multiple passes in one session against Daniel Jones.

Tennessee’s Tyjae Spears is running with purpose after injury-limited seasons. Wide receiver Elic Ayomanor hauled in contested catches and led the team in receptions on one recent day. In Denver, Bo Nix started strong with deep connections before settling into the grind. Several Broncos receivers, including Marvin Mims Jr. and Hakeem Butler, have flashed in the new scheme.

These early notes can shift fast once pads come on and joint practices begin Aug. 11. The Cardinals and Packers will meet for joint work Aug. 26, giving brothers Mike and Matt LaFleur a rare family reunion on the field.

Fantasy Football Breakouts Worth Tracking Right Now

Fantasy managers should keep notebooks open. Carolina’s Jonathon Brooks is getting first-team reps after two ACL recoveries. The former Texas back has the burst that once drew Jamaal Charles comparisons. Arizona’s Jeremiyah Love, the No. 3 overall pick, is rotating behind Tyler Allgeier but still sees meaningful first-team work. Love remains a strong Offensive Rookie of the Year candidate.

Other names generating early heat include Chicago’s Luther Burden III after DJ Moore’s departure to Buffalo, and several second-year receivers looking for larger roles. In Kansas City, fifth-rounder Cyrus Allen has drawn coaching attention while Patrick Mahomes continues his recovery. Keep an eye on undrafted and late-round backs who win the third-down or goal-line work in the next two weeks. Those roles often decide who becomes a weekly starter by September.

The players who separate themselves in these next 10 days usually end up on 53-man rosters and fantasy lineups. Camp is where the quiet ones get loud.

Roster Bubble Watch and Depth Chart Movement

Every team carries 90 players right now. Cuts to 53 come by late August. Bubble players are making their cases daily. Undrafted cornerbacks and special-teams aces are stacking snaps. Veteran free agents signed for competition are either rising or fading. Depth charts are fluid, especially at receiver and the offensive line where injuries or holdouts can open sudden opportunities.

Check the team-by-team notebooks daily. They track exactly who is taking the majority of first-team reps, who is relegated to the second unit, and which practice-squad candidates are turning heads. The joint practices will sharpen those evaluations even more.

The grind continues through the middle of August. Preseason Week 1 opens Aug. 13 with a full slate, including the Packers at the Steelers and the Cardinals at the Raiders. By then the picture of each roster will be much clearer.

Keep checking back for more camp notebooks exclusively from ESPN’s NFL Nation until the first full week of preseason games begins. The stands are full. The pads are on. The 2026 season is taking shape right now under the summer sun.
