Kayshon Boutte Pushes Back on Trade Rumors, Commits to Patriots Long-Term

Trade rumors have followed Kayshon Boutte through much of this offseason. The 24-year-old wide receiver stayed away from voluntary workouts while the Patriots completed their deal for A.J. Brown. Yet on Sunday in Franklin, Boutte stepped forward and spoke directly to WBZ’s Dan Roche and Aaron Parseghian. His message landed without hesitation.

“Just a lot of speculation going on. Just trying to figure out everything,” Boutte said. “I try not to buy into things, whether it’s the trade rumors or anything like that. But I’m still working even though I’m away. That’s my focus.”

He plans to join the team for mandatory minicamp this week. The sessions begin Tuesday. After missing the voluntary portion for the first time in his four years with New England, Boutte made it clear he intends to be on the field Day 1.

Boston Has Become Home

Boutte grew up in Louisiana and spent two decades there. Three-plus years in New England changed the equation.

“I want to be in New England for the rest of my career, I would say,” he told Roche. “I enjoy it out here. Been here three years. Every day I’m here. I call this home. This is my new home. Grew up in Louisiana. Stayed there 20 years, but now, Boston is my life.”

That personal anchor matters. The kid from New Iberia has built something real in Foxborough. Last season he posted career highs with 33 receptions for 551 yards and six touchdowns while developing quick chemistry with quarterback Drake Maye. Those numbers came in a supporting role. Now the supporting cast around him has grown significantly.

The Crowded Room and A.J. Brown Addition

The Patriots added Brown via trade from the Eagles in early June. They also signed Romeo Doubs in free agency. The depth chart now features Brown, Doubs, Mack Hollins, Demario Douglas, Kyle Williams, Efton Chism III, and Boutte.

Boutte plays the same X-receiver spot as Brown. That overlap fuels the speculation. Yet Boutte watched the tape and saw the value in the addition.

“That was a good pickup, man. He a great dude,” Boutte said of Brown. “You watch him play. He dominate. Great X receiver, dominant. Whether it’s a deep ball, short route, he can catch a slant, take it to the house. Big, big body. Contested catches. You know, you watch those guys. I’m an X receiver, too, so I sit there and kinda watch his tape, that’s a guy you see who constantly wins one-on-ones.”

The respect comes through clearly. Brown draws coverage. That can create space underneath and in the intermediate areas for others. Boutte understands the math. Competition for targets and snaps has always existed. The Brown trade simply raised the standard for everyone in the room.

Contract Year Reality and What Comes Next

Boutte enters the final year of his rookie contract after the Patriots selected him in the sixth round of the 2023 draft. Reports from ESPN’s Adam Schefter indicated Boutte has shown interest in a trade and has stayed away from the offseason program. Multiple outlets noted teams have called the Patriots about him.

Those details sit alongside Boutte’s own words. He controls what he can control. He keeps working. When pads go on and the full team reconvenes for mandatory minicamp, the evaluation shifts from rumor to performance on the grass.

Patriots coach Mike Vrabel has stayed in communication with Boutte during his absence and described the conversations as positive. Vrabel has pointed to Boutte’s growth and maturity, expecting him to build on the progress from 2025.
